A Surman Building Contractors are a well established and highly successful refurbishment/full design-build contractor based in the Midlands. We were initially introduced to the firm around 4 years ago based on an a referral from another contractor we were working for – often the way that our client relationships form.
Surmans specialise in remediating and redeveloping commercial spaces at end of tenancy. Our job is to document the process from start to finish to show the condition and state upon initiation through to how the project looks upon completion.
PLANNING
Most projects with Surman involve at least 2 visits to site and these projects are mainly based around the Midlands, each visit is carefully planned to ensure success and ourt process looks something like this:-
• Pre-site planning – Liaise with the project team to understand the programme, key activities, critical milestones and the specific content required before arriving on site.
• Compliance first – Complete all required RAMS, verify insurance, certifications and site inductions, and ensure the correct PPE is available for the planned activities.
• Risk assessment – Identify potential hazards, restricted areas and safe working practices so content can be captured without disrupting site operations.
• Shot planning – Create a structured shot list covering construction processes, plant, people, progress, drone operations (where permitted) and the key project milestones that matter most.
• Efficient site delivery – Work closely with the site management team throughout the visit, adapting to changing site conditions while maintaining safety, minimising disruption and capturing the strongest possible visual record.
CONTENT CHOICES
Every refurbishment project tells a story, and our role is to capture it from every angle. We document each project with professional before-and-after photography and videography, combining traditional drone footage, immersive FPV drone flights, high-quality still photography and handheld video to create a complete visual record. We focus not only on the finished space but also on the craftsmanship, technical detail and transformation that takes place throughout the project.
The result is a versatile library of authentic content that can be used for case studies, tender submissions, social media, recruitment, websites, client presentations and ongoing marketing—helping our clients demonstrate the quality of their work and the scale of projects they deliver.
