INTRODUCTION
The CR Reynolds Group is a UK based civil engineering, construction and development company based just near the Humber Bridge in Hessle, East Riding of Yorkshire.
The company has grown from a small contractor into a well-respected and highly regarded main contractor with a wide range of civil engineering experience throughout the UK.
Insight Photography has worked with CR Reynolds for the past 5 years and helped to document a broad range of interesting projects that have required ‘out of the box thinking’
PHASE 1 - TIME LAPSE
CR Reynolds were very interested in documenting the complete construction process of a bulk commodity shed on this project. It was important to be able to show expertise from setting out, breaking ground and general construction right through to the finished product.
Time lapse was the key component to capture the project from start to finish. After an initial site visit, we suggested a 4G connected, solar powered time lapse solution which would allow the camera to be pretty much self-sufficient for the duration of the project.
Immingham is about a 45-minute drive from ours and our clients home base so we wanted to use a system that we could remotely monitor – reducing our need for frequent maintenance visits but also allowing our client to use our supplied portal to monitor progress for their own purposes.
The time lapse system performed flawlessly during the whole duration of the project. We were able to check battery health and storage levels 24 hours a day – this gave us a very high level of confidence in the equipment.
Our client noted the provision of the time lapse portal had saved them many trips to site to verify simple things which were noted from the portal. This drilled down to cost savings in both fuel and carbon offsetting.
PHASE 2 - DRONE PROGRESS REPORTING
At several times during the length of the project, we visited site to fly progress reporting missions to update our client on general site progression. Capturing stills and video was essential to build a full picture and give our client the most value from our time on site.
PHASE 3 - PHOTOGRAPHY/ VIDEOGRAPHY
Once the construction of the bulk commodity shed was complete and ground works completed, we returned to site to de-rig our time lapse system and capture the finished project in all its glory using photography and videography.
We picked the most beautiful of days to go back – perfect light streamed across the shed and made our content that much more dramatic and with the River Humber as our back drop we were able to capture some really dynamic footage.
Final assembly of the time lapse case study could now get underway once we had all the assets collected and we were able to deliver a really great final product for CR Reynolds which they have used extensively in both general marketing and tender/framework applications.
CLIENT FEEDBACK
We worked very closely with our client on this project, with the site being a national port – there were many safety and security considerations that we had to work through together and it was a real joy to collaborate with Ross Benson, Construction Director at CR Reynolds.
He had this to say about our work together:-
“CR Reynolds and Insight Photography have been working on projects together for the past 5 years and we knew that Andrew and his team would capture the construction of the HIT building exactly as we wanted it. Communication is always very fluid and Andrew made sure that all planning/due diligence documents were submitted in a timely fashion without having to prompt. On site – Andrew was extremely professional and maintained safety standards as we expect at all times. The finished time lapse case study was exactly what we were looking for – it shows detailed progression of the innovative construction methods we used. Having access to the time lapse portal was really convenient for me and saved me quite a few trips to site. Overall, we are very happy with the finished project Andrew and his team completed for us and we are looking forward to documenting more projects in the future with Insight”
