INTRODUCTION

The CR Reynolds Group is a UK based civil engineering, construction and development company based just near the Humber Bridge in Hessle, East Riding of Yorkshire. The company has grown from a small contractor into a well-respected and highly regarded main contractor with a wide range of civil engineering experience throughout the UK.

Insight Photography has worked with CR Reynolds for the past 5 years and helped to document a broad range of interesting projects that have required ‘out of the box thinking’.

It’s often quite difficult to get a sense of the size and scale of the projects that Reynolds work on unless you are airborne – and this is where Insight’s fleet of drones has allowed us to capture these projects with ease.

The specific project in this case study was a classic example of how drone footage allowed us to bring something that may seem relatively uninteresting to life and communicate that in a short piece ideal for social media and tender applications.

The installation of a new pedestrian footbridge at garth lane, Grimsby would link Fisherman’s Wharf to Frederick Ward Way and is part of a wider scheme to enrich the area around the waterway for the benefit and enjoyment of pedestrians.
Our team arrived on site early in the morning to assess the different positions that we would be able to capture footage from. We decided on time-lapse, drone footage and traditional videography would be the perfect blend to tell the story.

Once the cameras were prepped and ready, we just had to sit back and wait for the massive 30m long, 5 m wide bridge to be lifted into place – which took around 20 minutes from start to finish. Our time lapse footage compressed this into about a 90 second piece of footage which blended in perfectly with the aerial shots taken from our drone. Along with the traditional video shots and a ‘hyper lapse’ we shot from a fixed camera attached to the bridge – we had everything we needed to create the presentation you see above. CR Reynolds were delighted with the results and have not only been able to use the footage for marketing purposes, but it also makes great collateral for tenders and framework applications going forward.

We love working with civil engineering and construction companies and will always go the extra mile to make sure that epic projects are captured in the most exciting of ways – if you have a project coming up that we might be able to help with, drop us a line – don’t be shy!
