INTRODUCTION

Dojo is a payment technology provider creating the tools and technology that empower 70,000 businesses across the UK to thrive. Dojo’s products include integrated card machines that process payments quickly, reliably and securely, and the Dojo app, which lets customers track their transactions in real-time.

With offices around the country, Dojo have been growing massively over the past few years and have won many awards in both their industry and more broadly when it comes to the environment they create for their team members to work in.

I was first approached by the company in late 2021 to help create a set of staff profile images that could be used internally and externally. Dojo use Slack to communicate internally and wanted to harmonise the profile picture staff use whilst also giving them the opportunity to update their LinkedIn profile.

We spent 5 days with the team creating a set of almost 175 headshots and it was during this time that I came to realise how happy Dojo team members are! I have to say, I’ve never met a set of people that are happier to be at work than this lot! Building rapport quickly is something that any photographer needs to do and through my conversations, I began to understand just how much the business does to make sure their people are in tip top shape.

Here are some of my favourite headshots from the initial headshot sessions, a simple brick wall made an effective background and my 2 light, 2 reflector worked wonders for those that had been to Xmas parties the night before their headshot (schoolboy error!)

SECOND PHASE - OFFICE MOVE

As the headshot work came to end, Dojo were in the final phases of wrapping up their time at their current offices on Princes Dock Street, Hull. Their new home was to be at the prestigious @TheDock complex right in the heart of Hull’s thriving ‘Fruit Market’ digital community.

Workplace Experience Manager, Liz Briggs was tasked with managing the transition to the new office space and re - locating her people comfortably had to be as big a priority as making sure the fixtures and fittings moved safely. We talked about the upheaval moving causes to workers and we discussed a number of ways we could help the team transition smoothly.

The first piece of work we did helped the team ‘visualise’ the new journey to work as it related to the existing premise. To do this we filmed a ‘hyperlapse’ which is basically a moving time lapse. We wanted to show the pleasant journey from the old offices across the new footbridge to the Marina and how it would ‘feel’ to arrive at the new premises with a brief look inside the offices as well.

This film was distributed to staff internally 6 weeks before the move to keep them informed and up to date.

THIRD PHASE - FINAL MOVE IN

Whilst the new offices were being fitted out by Chameleon Business Interiors, we captured the progress of the installation with 3 separate time lapse systems deployed throughout the 2 floors of the office complex. We knew there would be a lot of activity to capture so a 1 minute interval was chosen for the time-lapse sequence and left to run for the final 5 weeks of the fit out.

Once the offices were complete and ready for staff to move in, we spent an afternoon photographing the empty space and also created a 360 Virtual Tour. We also use our experience and specialism in interior drone flight to capture some moving images of the offices that we could use to build into our final movie presentation.

Dojo are great communicators and the 360 VR tour is now used as part of the induction process for new starters and gives them a head-start on orientation of what can be expected when they arrive to work – helping to quell any pre-start nerves!
Once the team were in and settled we were invited back for a final time to ‘finish the story’ by capturing a set of ‘lifestyle images’ that show the energy of the team as they inhabit and breathe within their prestigious new office. The final look shows vitality, energy, comfort, colour and vibrancy – a simply stunning place to work.

Here’s some of our favourite images from this last shoot.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

We love getting into long-term relationships with clients that not only value us, but value themselves. Dojo have been a real shining example of the type of client we love to work with who have a massive amount of self-respect and will always put their team at the forefront of their progress.

We asked Liz Briggs to give us some feedback on the work we did with Dojo and we were delighted with this glowing report -

“Andy has been a joy to work with from the start of our engagement with him and his team. We wanted to work with a content creator that not only shared our values but could really understand what makes us tick. It was great to watch Andy developing relationships with our team and I just know that this approach was massively important in how they were able to relax and ‘just be’ for him in the images he created for us. We knew Andy was an experienced photographer but he blew us away with his other skills in 360 VR, Time Lapse, Drone and videography. This multi-modal approach allowed us to get all the content from one supplier at a budget that suited us – a ‘one stop shop’ kept the project on time, on budget and ultimately delivering results that exceeded our expectations’ – highly recommend and definitely our first port of call when we need content next”
