PROJECT DETAIL
Westmoor Reservoir is situated approximately 2km southwest from the town of Langport in The site comprises West Moor and South Moor Reservoirs. The two reservoirs are hydraulically connected by a siphon and collectively are known as Westmoor Reservoir. Both provide flood storage, with water only being stored following high rainfall events.
Our client, Stockton Drilling, are specialists in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and also Direct Pipe (DP) techniques. We have worked with them since the start of 2020 and have always enjoyed getting involved in their highly technical projects so we were delighted when we asked to document this project.
PLANNING
Due to the remote location of this project, we had to work very closely with our client to understand the detail, workflow and logistics of the overall scheme so we could plan our activities accordingly.
The site was a 7 hour drive from East Yorkshire, so planning for every visit was crucial to the precision and success of our coverage.
CONTENT CHOICES
The main component of the project was to supply a time lapse camera that could handle a 8 month long shift with minimal intervention required.
We chose to install one of our Enlaps ‘Tikee’ time lapse units which proved to be an exceptional piece of tech to work with. An in-built solar panel and 4G SIM capability gave us unlimited power from the sun with the remote communications we were confident of managing the camera from such a distance from base.
We ran the camera successfully for the entire project with only a couple of wobbles on low sun periods, but with some remote serquence management, we were able to ‘massage’ the battery through these darker periods of time.
We visited the site a total of 4 times as the project progressed and each time we captured drone footage, video and photography as part of our package.
GREAT RESULTS
The 4 minute video we produced is used to show future clients the efficacy and practicalities of Stockton’s innovative techniques, it is used as a video back drop at trade shows and exhibitions and is also used in educational outreach when Stockton give presentations to engineering associations/universities.
The stills captured are used in bid writing, tender applications and for the submission of industry articles along with their regular use in social media on their website.
Stockton were delighted with the content package we delivered over the course of the project and we ourselves were delighted to be involved. A project like this doesn’t come along that often so getting out teeth into it was a real joy.

We worked very closely with our client on this project, with the site being part of flood defence – there were many safety and security considerations that we had to work through together and it was a real joy to collaborate with Stuart Stephens, Director of Special Operations at Stockton Drilling.
